Hydrogel ECM Mimics
Insitu gelling hydrogel biomaterials can be injected directly into the ischemic site. We design these hydrogels to contain bioactive signals to promote tissue repair.
One approach to generate microporous hydrogel biomaterials that remain injecable is to crosslink micon sized building blocks rather than molecular building blocks. Our laboratory pionered these hydrogels through the crosslinking of micron sized hydrogel beads . We termed these hydrogels Microporous Annealed Particle scaffolds or MAP scaffolds. As with other porous hydrogels we find that MAP scaffolds reduce inflammation, promote cellular infiltration and speed up tissue repair through enhanced cell migration. However, compared to other porous hydrogels, our scaffold is injectable.
